frankly, I think Stephan is in for a rude awakening later. He may be a nerd, but in some ways, he is not the *kind* of nerd that succeeds. What I mean is that he seems to expect that being a nerd magically means you succeed in the computer world. That’s not true. The stereotypical nerd living in their parents basement that avoids contact with anybody generally makes a poor programmer, since you DO need to be able to listen to other people. I hate to say it, but unless he learns some social skills- and recognises that while programmers are well-paid, it isn’t usually in the millions ( roughly $35k at entry level, while about the highest you can get- towards the end of your career- without becoming a C- level employee- which needs different skills- is about $165k. So by no means badly paid, but as a general rule? if you can’t work with other people, you won’t get much further than the entry-level, and would probably get no more than about $75k per year- and that only if you keep your skills up-to-date, which is difficult to do in isolation.

Nerd, hm? There are 10 kinds of people in the world: those who understand binary and those who don’t.
