If this strip gets translated into any other languages, this joke will probably lose a good deal of it’s impact.

I don’t get this one, unless it was supposed to say “Llewellyn beats Truman” and the editor of the newspaper messed up which I doubt

When Harry S. Truman was running for reelection in 1948, his opponent was Thomas E. Dewey. Dewey was winning for the majority of the vote, but Truman ended up winning a come-from-behind victory.

However, the Chicago Daily Tribune, which, at the time, had an earlier deadline for sending stories to press so they could be printed in time for the paper, assumed Dewey was going to be the winner, and printed their newspaper with the headline “Dewey Defeats Truman.”

After his successful reelection, Truman held up a copy of the paper, and jokingly said, “That’s not the way I heard it!”

The headline in the comic is a parody thereof.

Llewellyn is a dragon. Dragons eat people.

This is a bit of a retcon, by the way, because a past strip actually had “Llewellyn Beats Truman” as a newspaper headline.
