Holy Bellomy, this is an outrage, how do you dare to criticize the Republicans ’13 that way?!
Oh, now, that’s hardly fair; each time Bellomy’s gone on a rant about it, Ms. Simpson had indeed put some satire in that day’s strip, generally of a political nature which could be read as partisan, at which those terminally deficient in a sense of humor could possibly take offense. Unless I’m missing something, I don’t see any of that, here. (Both Republicans and Democrats have openly and freely engaged in spin-doctoring and shaping the media since Carter’s term — and probably quite a bit before, but that’s when I began paying attention to the antics in D.C.)
This sort of thing has been going on for centuries. The Boston massacre, while a horrible thing, was exaggerated and twisted in such a way to gather support for the American revolution, and that isn’t even remotely close to the first instance of this practice.
History is written by the victors.
instances since written history began, cases where the only narrative was obviously done to give a certain narrative to the masses and differing tales that laud one group and degrade the other. The rabbi who taught the Old Testament course at my Catholic alma mater pointed out places where you where there was probable spin (say, having a group of Israelites the offspring of 2 young women who thought they and their father were the only living people on Earth… so people could have cause to look down on them)
Of course, Ozy did not even notice Millie painting his tail till she shouted out her spin.
