So the moat’s lined with concrete or tile, like a pool, instead of being like a donut-shaped pond? That would be a lot less disgusting regarding swimming.
I’m guessing that it was originally a pond but was converted to a pool at some point. There was an earlier strip where Millie mentioned that she tried to hide in the moat and got covered in algae.

if it was historically accurate, the toilets would empty into it. There’s no way a 10-year old is going to be able to clean it.
