Hmm… unless he becomes the next Buddha how will Zen actually get him a job?
for that matter, what about memorizing multiplication tables? They make cell phones with calculators in them these days! Who needs to know math??
The people who make the calculators and cell phones still find it handy. 😛
It’s also pretty useful when you are apart from your devices. ^_^
Ironically, while, say, coding a Java Application, opening a calculator is just a waste of time, so multiplication tables are handy there as well.
I prefer to do the math in my head, it’s less frustrating that trying to hit those little numbers.
I always had a blind spot for 6 * 7.
Here’s a hack I came up with. The value of the number in any box of the mulitplication table is the total number of boxes (not the numbers in them, just the boxes) in a rectangle with opposite corners being the box in question and the box for 1X1.
In other words, 5 rows of 6 boxes = 5 x 6? :-/
I think that is *exactly* what Averagemoe means, but heck, if that visualisation lets him count the total number of boxes, more power to him!
I’m glad to know that Llewelyn is actually teaching him practical stuff.
