Adamss and Jefferson managed to regain their friendship, even though Jefferson’s election after Adams was the first party hand off in US history. And both believed they were upholding the principles of the country they founded when they served (Adams was on the Declaration committee and *still* they disagreed on what they were supposed to do with the nation… so much for the whole “the founding fathers believed” argument). Jon Stewart said context was what made old people sad, works for history majors as well

I’m 57 and I really think politics has deteriorated in my lifetime.
Same as ever, and still true as always.
As an adult reading this at the closing end of 2021, and I identify with this FAR more than I’m comfortable with…
