Bill Nye is not exactly a scientist.
Neither was Beakman
Engineer and educator, yeah. But he *is* the Science Guy.
Bill Nye is a scientist. That was just his TV persona
No he has an honorary degree just ask Rodney McKay from SGA
He has a Bachelors of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Cornell University, and also has several honorary degrees.
Bill Nye never claimed to be a scientist. His title was “Science Guy”, not scientist, and he certainly has lived up to that title as an educator and supporter of science.
In the Memorex commercial in which Ella Fitzgerald’s voice broke the glass, her voice was amplified to 168 decibels. Not only would something that loud break a glass, it would cause permanent brain damage to any human exposed to it.
It has to be the right pitch for the scientific way. The one you need is the tone that comes from the glass when you rub the rim.
Mythbusters looked at this.
It can be done, unamplified, even by Adam Savage:

Still better than Galileo…
Dunno if I buy this one. Any startle reflex had to have been conditioned out of Mililani by this time.
