Millie, if you want an exploration of the subject watch the excellent sci-fi movie “Serenity”. One of my all-time favorite movies. Belief is an important part of the human experience.
You’re missing the point of the comment, oddly enough.
The kind of ‘belief’ Serenity espouses isn’t necessarily religious faith or belief in a particular set of laws. Just a belief or faith in…something. Or, to quote the points in the movie where it’s most apparent
From a dying man – “I don’t care what you believe in. Just *believe in it*.”
From the one that was said to – “Because as sure as I know anything, I know this. They will try again. Maybe somewhere else, maybe on this same ground swept clean. They aren’t going to give up on the idea that they can make people…”better”. And I *do not hold to that*.
Seattle is too far north to have much in the way of deciduous trees period. What could be taken for casually-drawn “leaves” in panel three might instead be fluffy cotton that Millie has decorated those trees with: or perhaps their puffs of breath in panels one and two having floated behind them and towards us, thereby appearing much bigger?
Amen, Millie.

I’m tired of running. I aim to misbehave.”
There is no way to peace. Peace is the way.
When Moses found the Hebrews worshiping the golden calf, he said “Holy cow!”
This strip is posted December 5, 2006. It is set in December, and in Seattle.
Does Seattle have deciduous trees fully leafed in December?
