  1. And then I learned that the song is actually way older than I had previously thought, and even predates this strip by a little over ten years.

    • I recall an episode of “Arthur” that explored that notion from a ten-year-old’s mindset. A couple of girls took a personality quiz out of a teen girl magazine. Upon reading their results, they convinced themselves that, because it was a teen magazine, it must be predicting their future… and they acted accordingly.

    • Many are “aspirational”, which is to say that they’re popular with an audience a bit younger than what they’re nominally aimed at. This is one reason Axe body spray has such a bad rap. It’s overused by young teen and tween boys who haven’t yet learned that A: more isn’t always better, and B: fragrances are meant to supplement regular bathing, not replace it.
