William James Hung (born January 13, 1983), also known as Hung Hing Cheong, is a Hong Kong-born American former singer who gained fame in early 2004 as a result of his off-key audition performance of Ricky Martin’s hit song “She Bangs” on the third season of the television series American Idol.

    And the national anthem was written by Francis Scott Key, who is doubtless spinning like a top.

    • Honestly, I think we could have picked an artist/composer that has passed at that point and measure their corpse’s “grave movement”

    • The *words* may have been written by FSK, the tune is exactly that of an old English choral-society song about Bacchus and his exploits. So: yet another example of the early US recycling English tunes to US words. Can you think of some more?

      • To Anacreon in Heaven, an old English drinking song. Considering it’s famously difficult to sing, I can only assume those old English drunks were incredible singers.
