The original artwork for this comic is available for purchase.
Notes: White-out correction in last panel. Penciled notes in the bottom margin say “Llewellyns and fire” (reference to a later storyline), “MAKE UP OWN SAYINGS (ORANGE JUICE)”, “GOING TO THE BEACH” (another later storyline), “BIRTHDAY PARTY”, and “Porcupine Tree” (a band Dana was getting into at the time).
I’ve never lived a single summer in my life. Though if it means stepping on a bee, I’m not sure I want to.
I’m in the midst of a summer in its dying throes, and boy is it hot! I’d give anything to never see another summer, again.
How long have you been commuting between hemispheres?
…or a Yellowjacket
Has anyone noticed this comic seems to be reversed? If the first panel is any indication, Millie stepped on the bee with her right paw, yet in the following two panels, it’s her left paw that’s in pain.
Delayed reaction mabie?
Being 4 ‘official summers’ old, I assure you that is not something that can get delayed by a whole step.
Perhaps the sting itself was delayed.
No, the actual sting was in panel 0, the one before panel one. She is already in pain in panel one and I would argue that her right foot is still off the ground at that point.
Accupuncture sting, get it in one part, feel it in another.
As much as I enjoy this comic, it’s hilariously ironic that I’m an inside person and I hate going outside if the weather is at a temperature that makes me uncomfortable. Well, I guess that’s what fiction’s for!
Been there; done that.
IS THAT A PILE OF BEES?
Looks like a clover patch to me. And clover can attract honeybees. 🙂
Oof, been there…one time I swatted one with a towel, only for it to bonk against the kitchen window, bounce right off and land stinger first right beneath my left eye! The bee-karma is not strong with me. Nope.
I once got stung when I picked one up (I was about 4), one landed on my throat and stung it when I moved my head, and one flew into my upper lip and stung me.
No feet yet, though.
I got stung on the bridge of my nose once. I spent a day or so with both eyes swollen shut.
Am I the only that thinks she should’ve dragged her tail on it because of how big and bushy it is?
I stepped on some sort of stinging insect one (1) time. The experience made think of this strip.
