He can see us! In this alternate dimension, this is the second time hes has aknowlledged the fact that there are windows between our dimensions, through which only us, the grayscale identical races, can see through.
Actually, there is a subtle distinction between an aside and breaking the fourth wall. He is speaking to us, but he does so in a way that does not directly acknowledge us. The fourth wall remains (more or less) intact. I can’t recall any occasions on which this comic has actually broken it
He’s technically just explaining things to the universe. Its only out of story that this comes across as even straining the fourth wall. In story, he’s just being weird.

Were this played on a stage now, I would condemm it as improbable fiction.
Reality is more improbable. Fiction has to make sense.
